Mining on the Yamuna river bed
A joint committee comprising the member secretaries of the Uttar Pradesh State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) and the Uttar Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (UPSPCB) has to furnish a new report on illegal sand mining on the Yamuna river bed between Etawah and Jalaun district of the state within one month.
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) ordered this on July 26, 2019, after taking into consideration, the photographic evidence submitted by the the person who had filed a petition on the matter.
An older report sought by the NGT in May 2019 from the UPSPCB and the SEIAA, when furnished, had stated there was no illegal mining. But, the petitioner had challenged the report and submitted photographs in support.
Mall Road encroachments
The NGT directed the Secretary, Town and Country Planning Department, Himachal Pradesh on July 25, 2019 to submit a new report on unauthorised construction at the Bridge View Hotel on the Mall Road, Shimla.
The court did so after asking the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Shimla, and the Director, Town and Country Planning Department, to explain how the illegal constructions were allowed, even near the office of the municipal corporation, which they failed to do so.
Sand mining in Hoshangabad
File an affidavit to explain how mining leases were being granted for mining sand in Madhya Pradesh's Hoshangabad district, the NGT told the Principal Secretary, Mineral Resources, Madhya Pradesh on July 26, 2019.
The tribunal said the state could permit mining only after Environment Management Plan had been approved by the SEIAA.
