The first mobile telephones in the
us were so cheap that they were
being distributed free with every
purchase of petrol. Now, the purchase of a Burger King whopper
earns one a CD-ROM for free. The
fast food chain is handing out
Disney titles such as The Lion King
and Pocahontas for children in the
us owning multimedia PCs.
The reason behind these generous gestures is the reduced cost of
producing CD-ROMs because of
their overyroduction. The demand
for publishing large amounts of
information has increased tremendously. Apart from giant software
packages, organisations also need to
share text, pictures and even sound
and video rues with employees and
customers.
