GENSETS UNDER CHECK

Published: Monday 31 December 2001

The Delhi High Court has issued notice to the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) on a petition requiring the Central and state governments to define and improve standards of NOx level for generator sets above 19 KVA.

Earlier, the United Communist Party of India , a non-governmental organisation, filed a public interest litigation (PIL) saying that nothing had been done to check the pollution generated by gensets, which were causing harm to public health. The PIL also stated that there were rules framed to contain genset pollution by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) but these needed to be implemented by DPCC and not the state government.
