Grounded by thirst

Painted storks, spoonbills, ducks, pelicans and black-winged stilts -- all inhabitants of the Vettakudi bird sanctuary, located about 60 kilometres from Tiruchi in Tamil Nadu -- have been hit by an acute water shortage. The birds, numbering about 500, hover over a small pool of water in the hope of quenching their thirst.
