Computers will now bring peace in war-ravaged West Asia. This hope has inspired Israeli foreign minister Shimon Peres to initiate a project that could give a new direction to information technology in the region. On January 29, he organised a meeting with the Egyptian foreign minister and senior executives of 4 European computer companies, where it was agreed that the group would approach the European Community to fund a us $500 million 5-year project to provide computer systems to West Asian and Arab students. Peres is convinced that peace could be ushered in by improving the younger generation's education.
