The report, The indices of world development, on water pollution around the world, has evaluated the role of different industries in polluting the waterbodies in Iran. The food and drink industry tops the list, contributing 43.8 per cent; basic metal industries contribute 17.2 per cent; and textile manufacturing industries contribute 12.5 per cent.
Other polluting sectors included chemicals, glass, wood, pulp and paper, and stone and ceramic.
