The Allahabad High Court has ordered closure of all industrial units on the banks of the river Ganga in the state which had not installed effluent treatment plants. A division bench comprising Justice K D Sahi directed the State Pollution Control Board to report compliance of the order to the court. The court was responding to a petition filed by Rakesh Kumar Jaiswal of Echo Groups, Kanpur. The Bench asked the government to constitute a high-powered committee to look into the growing pollution in Ganga.
