The governor of Jakarta was feted by the organisers of a recent Better Air Quality workshop in the city for his work on air quality in the Indonesian capital, prompting criticism from NGOs denouncing the city's overall environmental record.

The publisher of fashion major Victoria's Secret's catalogue has agreed not to buy paper produced from the habitat of threatened Canadian caribou, a move hailed by environmentalists as a victory in efforts to limit logging in Canada's boreal forests.

A new 10-second animation film provides a scary illustration of the possible impact of climate change over the next 40 years. Produced by the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Colorado, USA, the animations uses new computer modelling to show that the Arctic ice cap is doomed.
