Concerned about water scarcity in Madhya Pradesh, the people there have launched a SMS campaign to save water. "Sir, kindly save water for a safe future," says the SMS. It also requests receivers to forward the message to "as many people as possible".
45 students from Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, Venezuela and French Guiana will retrace the route followed by Spanish explorer Francisco de Orellana along the Amazon River in 1541 and 1542. The expedition has been designed by the Organizations of the Amazonian Cooperation Treaty. "Its objective is to encourage the kids to protect the Amazon," said the organisation's secretary general, Rosala Arteaga.
