McNeil Consumer Products of Fort Washington, US, has come out with Nictrol NS, aDasal spray containing 100 mg of pure nicotine to 'wean off people &om smoking. The Food and Drug Administration has approved the product on the condition that it will be sold by prescription to adults who want to quit the habit. A squirt up each nostril gives the smoker one mg of nicotine, which is 10 times of what is contained in low-nicotine cigarettes. The plus point is that the brain absorbs less nicotine &om the spray than from cigarettes. This is because nicotine &om cigarettes is pumped into the lungs from where it goes directly to the heart and then to the brain, while that from the nasal spray is circulated throughout the body before reaching the brain.
