Pakistan federal minister for environment, local government and rural development, Umar Asghar Khan, has said that an emergency response system should be developed in the Port Qasim Area (PQA) to check incidents of oil spillage in the future. The PQA, Maritime Security Agency (MSA), Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Pakistan Environment Protection Agency (PEPA) and Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) would have representatives in the committee that will develop the system. The environ-ment minister took serious note of the oil spills that destroyed the marine life and 8,000 acres of mangroves in addition to marine installations in the vicinity.
