Rural Cyber Kiosks India

"Mission 2007, Every Village a Knowledge Centre", an initiative that aims to establish cyber kiosks (ck s) in every Indian village by 2007, is well on track. To meet the mission's targets, over 600,000 kiosks equipped with internet facilities will have to be running within the next two years. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has already proposed a rural broad band policy. At a recent meet of the steering committee meeting of the National Alliance on Mission 2007, the minister of state for planning, M V Rajasekharan, said, "There is a need for concessional funds from banks to enable local youth to set up cks."At the meet, Sukanya Rath, secretary general of the mission, proposed networking of villages on the east coast of the Indian peninsula should be done on a war footing."This is essential for the disaster preparedness", she argued.
