A geo-scientific survey, conducted by the Geological Survey of Bangladesh, reveals that the Moheshkhali Island in the Cox Bazar district is susceptible to earthquakes due to continuous degradation of the hills. "Considering the possible impact of earthquakes, it can be concluded that houses with mud walls are not suitable for this area because there is every possibility of another quake in the future," warned the report. The report stressed that houses should be constructed with bamboo or reinforced concrete to avoid further loss in this area since it is quake-prone.
