Computer Game>> Real Estate • Denmark
People in Denmark can now tear down existing apartment blocks and acquire new real estate, but only in the virtual world. The whole of Denmark has been recreated, to scale, in computer game, Minecraft. The government says the maps were created to be used as an educational tool. It envisages them as “virtual field trips” to hard-to-reach parts of the country. Danish residents are urged to “freely move around in Denmark” and “find your own residential area, to build and tear down”. Within a week, “Several large Danish towns have been levelled to the ground...Copenhagen and other cities have been reconstructed,” said Chris Hammeken, chief press officer of Geodatastyrelsen, which constructed the model.
