Restoring power

Published: Sunday 31 August 1997

A unique system for immediate restoration of power and rectification of damaged transmission lines has been developed by the Power Grid Corporation Ltd (pgcl), Calcutta. Usually, repair of transmission lines that collapse in high storm conditions or hurricanes, takes a long time. The new system repairs damaged transmission lines very fast. According to A G Aggarwal, PGCL general manager for the eastern and northeastern region, the device needs no foundation. The base plate is directly placed on the ground and secured with reinforcing bars, driven through the corners. Made of aluminum alloy, this system is easy to handle and can be transported to the 'problem sites'.
