Children chasing down each other for their favourite mangoes, old people walking gently through the rows of Badami, Raspuri, Senduri mango trees, some concentrating on picking mature mangoes, animated discussions about organic farming. Such scenes were witnessed at Organic farmer Vittelenahalli Ramkrishnappa’s farm near Ramnagaram just over 70 km from Bengaluru city. It was a mango picking festival organised by Baduku, a training initiative of Samvada an NGO in Bengaluru. Organized in the first week of May, the festival is part of a series of fruit and vegetable picking events where consumers and organic farmers interact. “It was an amazing experience,” said Niveditha Menon, a visitor from Bengaluru.
