Smoking bones to decay

Research shows smoking is not only bad for your lungs, it's also harmful for your bones, muscles and joints. Stuart A Hirsch, at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, says: "Nicotine slows fracture healing, estrogen effectiveness and counteracts the antioxidant properties of vitamins C and E, predisposing smokers to increased hip fracture risk." Also, Smokers could have more severe disc degeneration than non-smokers as smoking weakens spinal ligaments.
