According to the animal husbandry department secretary, J P Singh, it was found that Indian buffaloes were in demand in Vietnam while duck meat is very popular in India's coastal areas and north ern states. The only available breed of ducks in India, Khaki Campbell, was developed by the duck research centre at Hessarghatta near Bangalore.

India had made several attempts in the past to. import ducks.
