Nearly 600 houses were destroyed by torrential rain and gale force winds at Medirigirya in Sri Lanka recently. The government has already sent rations to the affected areas. The four divisions -- Niladhari of Menil Horowwa, Wettakachchi, the Medirigiriya new town and Etamba Oya have been affected. Social services minister Ananda Sarath Kumara Ratnayake said financial help would be extended to the affected people.
