Zoo>> Cruelty To Animals • Iran
The environmental authorities of Iran have sued a zoo for keeping animals in poor conditions, particularly for chaining a bear to a post. The lawsuit was filed after several Iranians shared pictures of the bear with a chain fastened to its neck and expressed outrage on social networks about the way it was being held captive in Babolsar. Iran’s environment department said it had inspected Babolsar’s zoo, in the province of Mazandaran, and was pursuing a legal case following complaints by the public over the illtreatment of animals held there.
Mohammad Darvish of the department's educational and public participation office, told news website Tabnak that he was dismayed at seeing the bear's plight and that the zoo should be closed down.
