The Polavaram dam project has given rise to an inter-state conflict. The Orissa government recently wrote to the Central Water Commission (cwc) and the Andhra Pradesh government protesting against the dam. It claimed the dam would submerge 588 hectares of land in Orissa and displace around 6,316 families. It demanded that the cwc disclose the grounds on which the project was cleared. Chhattisgarh too has fears that around 2,398 hectares of land might get submerged.
