imageA hi-tech bracelet could soon be helping civil rights and aid workers at risk of being abducted or killed. When triggered, the personal alarm in the device uses phone technology to warn that its wearer is in danger. Warnings are sent in the form of messages to Facebook and Twitter.

The devices, developed by UK’s Civil Rights Defenders, were given out in the UK in the second week of April. Alerts can be sent manually by a rights worker if he or she feels under threat or are triggered automatically if the bracelet is forcefully removed.
