Meegni and Himmatpura, two villages in India’s most drought-prone region, Bundelkhand, have managed to beat water scarcity and drought using Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

The two villages built check dams and other water harvesting structures using these funds. This not only reversed hunger and migration but also improved all socio-economic indices. This is one of 16 case studies from across India that Down To Earth has captured in its cover story Waternomics.
