WHO, USFDA keep the drug away from COVID-10 treartment line-up
Goa’s health minister Vishwajit Rane announced May 10, 2021 that all adult residents of the state would be provided Ivermectin.
A 12 milligram dose of the drug will be administered to everybody above 18 years, even if they do not have the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Citizens can collect it from government health care centres.
Ivermectin is used to treat parasitic roundworm infections like intestinal strongyloidiasis and river blindness. Experts from the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain and Japan, after 27 controlled trials to check its efficacy, claimed thyere was a significant reduction in mortality, time to recovery and viral clearance in COVID-19 patients treated with Ivermectin.
Its usage by medical professionals is approved by South Africa, Zimbabwe, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Mexico and India. But the World Health Organization and the United States Food and Drug Administration did not approve it for treating COVID-19 and warned that large doses could be dangerous.
