44% increase in pedestrian deaths due to road accidents
There has been a 44 per cent increase in the deaths of pedestrians due to road accidents, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari told the Rajya Sabha.
The total number of pedestrians killed under the category of road users in the country during the last three calendar years — 2016, 2017, 2018 — are 15,746, 20,457, and 22,656 respectively, according to the information received from police departments of all states and union territories, Gadkari said.
BS-VI mass emission standard for vehicles
The Union government has mandated BS-VI mass emission standard for vehicles throughout the country from April 1, 2020, to curb pollution, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, said in a statement to the Rajya Sabha.
Effluent treatment norms for pharmaceutical companies
There are increasing concerns on water pollution and thus a need for improving upon the quality of effluents. An Expert Committee, constituted by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), has examined the standards for antibiotic residue (Anti-Microbial Resistance-AMR) in the effluents from such industries for suitable revision of the existing standards, the Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Prakash Javadekar told the Rajya Sabha. The environmental standards for the pharmaceutical industry were last issued in 2009.
Nutrition to tribal people
The Union government has adopted a multi-pronged strategy for the overall development of tribal people living across the country including Karnataka, which includes schemes for health, livelihood, education, sanitation, water supply, skill development, agriculture, horticulture and fisheries, Union Minister of Tribal Affairs, Arjun Munda, told the Lok Sabha.
