Centre rejects proposal to exemption on mining norms
The Environment Ministry’s apex forest body has shot down a joint proposal by the Coal, Petroleum and Mining ministries to fully exempt themselves from Forest department permissions to scale up the density of exploratory boreholes, used to prospect for minerals, in forests.

The Odisha government has slapped a demand notice on chrome ore miners, including Odisha Mining Corporation for overproduction of chromite ore beyond the statutory limits.
Mines ministry sets directions for 2020 lease auction process
The Union Mines Ministry has asked iron ore mining lease holders, whose leases will expire in March 2020, to undertake exploration of their potentially mineralised area before April 1, 2019 as a part of Final Mining Closure Plan.
