This week saw the world observe the World Water Week, once again highlighting the importance of this extremely precious resource. There was also India’s triumph on the moon and other developments. Here are Down To Earth’s top 10 green stories on the week that was:

Extreme weather events in South-West Pacific led to economic damages to the tune of close to $8.7 billion in 2022 compared to $5.7 billion in 2021,  according to a report released by World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

A new study led by the Clinical Studies and Trials Unit of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) found that vaccination against COVID-19 before contracting the infection provided around 60 per cent protection against post-discharge death after at least one dose.

African Swine Fever (ASF), a highly contagious haemorrhagic viral infection that afflicts domestic and wild pigs and boars with a near 100 per cent mortality rate, has spread to 49 countries since January 2021, according to a new report.

The two-day G20 health ministers meeting concluded in Gandhinagar, Gujarat on August 19, 2023. The ministers met in order to discuss major issues and challenges pertaining to global health.

Erratic and deficit rainfall in monsoon 2023 in the Western Ghats have affected the breeding cycles of amphibians, according to scientists. Animals usually found abundantly in the region during the season have been absent, showed recent visits by researchers.

India on August 23, 2023 became only the fourth country in the world to land a spacecraft on the Moon. It also became the first country to soft land on the lunar south pole.
