An An, the oldest male giant panda in the world, has died at Ocean Park Hong Kong. He was 35 years old, which is nearly 105 years in human years. In this photo released by Ocean Park in August last year, An An celebrates his 35th birthday.

Giant pandas are considered symbols of friendship and peace in China. They have been used by the country in so-called ‘Panda Diplomacy’. Here, An An enjoys a meal during the Chinese Lunar New Year in February 2022. Photo: Ocean Park
