The New Delhi-based Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) has been ranked the top environmental policy think tank in India and 16th in the world by the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP) of the Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. The CSE has climbed up two positions from the last year. The TTCSP conducts a research on the role policy institutes play in governments and civil societies around the world.

The CSE has also made it to the first comprehensive list of leading Food and Water Security Think Tanks in the world. In the 'Energy and Resource Policy Think Tanks' category, the CSE has been ranked the second in India and 38th in the world. It has also been ranked the 6th best independent think tank in India.

In the Top Energy and Resource Policy Think Tanks category, the CSE ranked 2nd in India and 38th in the world.

According to the TTCSP, think tanks are “public-policy research analysis and engagement organizations that generate policy-oriented research, analysis, and advice on domestic and international issues”.

  • Kudos to CSE for all those international and national rankings. Well done. What rankles is that this recognition comes from TTCSP of a US based university. What about all the 'honours' our government keep dishing out for all sorts of (often dubious) achievements? Despite such international recognition, i wonder how many of our government Think Tanks read CSE publications? We know little or nothing because have never read a response even to the most pressing issues raised by CSE from even bureaucrats (forget the ministers) occupying high and mighty seats in government. May be magazines like DTE don't make it to the tables of even idling babus?
