Sewage discharged into Sai river 

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on January 2, 2020 came down heavily on the Uttar Pradesh government about pollution in the state's Sai river. The tribunal directed action to be taken in the case keeping in mind the directions passed by it in related cases and a compliance report furnished by February 28, 2020.

Steps to control Yamuna pollution

The NGT on January 3 asked all the stakeholders looking at steps to prevent and control pollution of the Yamuna river in Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to give their suggestions in writing within one week after which, the NGT order would be uploaded upon considering the suggestions / submissions by January 24, 2020.

Prevent muck disposal in the Dhauliganga

The NGT on January 2 directed the National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) and the Tehri Development Corporation Limited (TDCL) to take necessary steps to prevent muck disposal in the Dhauliganga river in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district.  

Non-functional STPs at Indirapuram

The NGT on January 2 directed the chief secretary of Uttar Pradesh to take action against officers responsible for the three sewage treatment plants at Indirapuram, Ghaziabad, which were not functioning properly, leading to pollution in the area.
