Centre sends team to assess malnutrition deaths in Odisha
Ninteen infants have died due to malnutrition and related diseases in Jajpur district in the last six months

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has constituted a high-level team to carry out a spot assessment of mulnutrition deaths reported in Odisha's Jajpur district. The team will visit Nagada village in Sukinda block of the districts where 19 infant deaths have been reported in the last six months due to malnutrition-related causes.
The team comprises of senior officers and public health experts from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of Women and Child Development. Union health minister J P Nadda has assured the state of all assistance required to deal with the crisis. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has also asked the state government to submit a report on the situation in the village in 10 days.
Twenty-four infants from villages of Nagada and Guhiasal are currently undergoing treatment at local health centres.
