Coronavirus update: Global death toll reaches 900,000 people

More than 900,000 people have died from the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) across the world, according to data from the Johns Hopkins University in the United States.

• There have been at least 900,239 deaths worldwide, a report on CNN, said. The United States has accounted for at least 190,784 coronavirus-related deaths, the most around the world. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases around the world stands at 27,719,952, according to Johns Hopkins.
• The Delhi government will continue with plasma therapy to fight COVID-19, its health minister Satyendar Jain September 10, the Hindu reported.
• India’s homegrown vaccine candidate, Covaxin, currently in its second phase of testing, will most probably be cleared for public use in the early months of 2021, the Times of India reported.
• Cats may be catching COVID-19 at far higher rates than thought before, a study by Chinese scientists has revealed. Researchers from Huazhong Agricultural University, took blood samples from 102 cats, a report on news18.com, said. COVID-19 antibodies were present in 15 of the blood samples taken from the cats, the results showed.
• The Trump administration may end COVID-19 screenings of passengers arriving to the United States from overseas, according to a report on CNN.
• The coronavirus can directly invade the brain, causing headaches, confusion and delirium, according to a study published September 9, NDTV reported.
• The number of COVID-19 cases in India stood at 4,465,863 as on 8 am, September 10, 2020 according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. There were 919,018 active cases, 3,471,783 recoveries and 75,062 deaths

• There were 4,470,166 confirmed cases in India according to private aggregator Covid19India. The number of active cases was 922,946 active cases, 3,471,495 recoveries and 75,119 deaths.
