Nationwide lockdown extended to May 3, 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi says.
- Strict vigil until April 20.
- Says hotspots have to be identified and controlled; places that can turn into hotspots have to be identified.
- Places that can control the outbreak by April 20, can expect some relaxations in lockdown.
- Urges young scientists to develop vaccine for SARS-CoV-2 virus.
- Seeks help from citizens on seven counts.
- Acknowledges hardships to citizens due to the 21-day nationwide lockdown.
- Claims India didn’t wait for problem to escalate, but took proactive steps.
- Asserts India is better off than many developed countries.
- Accepts the lockdown has come at a cost but says there was no other way.
- India had 10,363 cases positive to the novel coronavirus, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as of 8 am April 14, 2020.
- That’s nearly 1,000 more cases than last evening.
- The death toll was at 339.
- Maharashtra had 2,334 cases — an increment of 349 cases in 24 hours.
- The state’s death toll was at 160.
- Delhi's had 1,510 cases — a jump similar to Maharashtra’s, with 28 deaths.
- Tamil Nadu had 1,173 cases.
- Worldover, there were nearly two million cases.
