Coronavirus update: Surge in India tally
More than 1,000 cases in a day

India has registered more than 1,000 cases positive to the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) in a 24-hour span, the times of India daily reported citing the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare as saying April 11, 2020.
- The ministry's website pegged the tally at 8,356.
- Deaths due to the ensuing disease outbreak (COVID-19) have surged to 273.
- Delhi became the second state to cross the 1,000 cases mark, along with 19 deaths.
- Maharashtra continued to lead the tables with 1,761 cases and 127 deaths.
- Madhya Pradesh had the second-highest death toll at 36 amid 532 cases.
- Tamil Nadu, after a recent spurt in cases, remained stabled with 969 cases and 10 deaths.
- Meghalaya, Sikkim and Nagaland are the only states to not report a single case.
- Among Union territories, there have been no reports from Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Lakshadweep.
- In Maharashtra, most cases remained concentrated in capital Mumbai, according to crowdsourcing website Covid19india.org.
- Thane, near India’s financial capital has moe than 140 cases while Pune district had over 250.
- In Tamil Nadu, Chennai had more than 180 cases while Coimbatore had close to 100 and neighbouring Erode 60.
- In Rajasthan, Jaipur had over 300 cases, while 50 have been evacuated.
- In Madhya Pradesh, Indore had 235 cases while capital Bhopal had 116.
- Telangana capital Hyderabad had over 100 cases.
- In Guajarat, Ahmedabad had 243 cases, while Vadodara had 95.
- In Uttar Pradesh, Agra — which draws a lot of tourists — had 92 cases.
- Gautam Buddha Nagar district, better known as Noida, in the National Capital Region had 62 cases. Meerut had close to 50 cases.
- Most of Andhra Pradesh's cases were in Kurnool and Guntur districts. Nellore too had close to 50 cases.
- Information technology hub Bengaluru had 68 cases while Mysuru had 47.
- Most of Haryana’s cases were concentrated in its southern districts — in the National Capital Region or close by.
- In Punjab, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, bordering the Union territory of Chandigarh, had 50 cases.
- North Kerala's Kasargod had 166 cases while Kannur had 70.
- The Union home ministry April 11 exempted the fishing industry from the ongoing 21-day nationwide lockdown.
