The Delhi government May 10, 2020 issued a new protocol to check whether deaths from the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were being under-reported. According to the state administration:
It has been observed that both public and private hospitals are not reporting the death of positive cases occurring in their hospitals in regular and timely manner. Despite repeated reminders, the death summaries of the deceased patients are not being submitted to the death audit committee resulting in incorrect / delayed reports being submitted.
- The National Institute of Virology has developed an antigen-based ELISA tests for COVID-19 testing. These can test 90 samples in 2.5 hours — the current PCR (polymerase chain reaction tests) take 48 hours. Some states have complained of tests taking even a week for results. The technology has been transferred from NIV to Ahmedabad-based Zydus Cadila for mass production of kits, Union health minister Harsh Vardhan said.
This kit was validated at 2 sites in Mumbai & has high sensitivity & accuracy. Besides,it has the advantage of testing 90 samples together in a single run of 2.5 hours, so that healthcare professionals can proceed quickly with necessary next steps on their patients’ triage paths. pic.twitter.com/J0uKCUPa5h
